My pace, My space: Stay safe!

Every week we receive a newsletter from our running leader before the training clinic.

This week it outlines some simple rules to stay safe while running, which are totally worth sharing:

Run with a friend, especially if you’re heading out at night or testing a new route.

Share the pathway, stay on the right of the trail and let others pass on the left. Try to stay single-file if running with someone.

Run against the traffic so you can see what’s coming your way and alert people in front of you when you plan to pass them to prevent dashing into someone. A simple ‘on your left’ works just fine.

Ensure you’re visible in the dark by wearing reflective clothing or tape and carry identification information, emergency contact details and blood group while out on the road.

Don’t wear flashy jewellery (don’t tempt thieves) and be careful with that music device (ensure you can hear sounds of traffic and other people).

And as for my training update, well, I’m finding it really tough to keep up with threes and twos even, so I’m not sure how I will manage to go longer, if at all.

I may also have to change the clinic I’m attending because of changes in my work schedule (feels like the universe is conspiring to prevent me from running).

Are any of you finding it as tough, or is it just me? Send a tweet my way and tell me how you’re feeling.

Cheers!
